Christmas Teacher from lolapaloza
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ so that the holiday joy will spread.

Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use - or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free - do it.

You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf - to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not - it's your call.

There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.

My wish...for my students )

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! From the very bottom of my heart....Thank you

What a S**T week so far...

  • Dec. 1st, 2009 at 8:39 PM

So here has been my week so far....

Sunday I get home from CT from a lovely weekend with family and spending TONS of time with my "Bug". I get back on Sunday and it's nice to see my cat and the Puglett and my sister. We talk, and then run to the store...no Diet Coke! I get back and go online to check out the internets and such then turn around to go to bed and low and behold...the cat has left a little "present" ON MY BED....UGH

Now, note that this is not the first time. We've had this problem and we thought it was solved. So needless to say, at 10:00pm I strip the bed, put the blankets and sheets in the wash and change over everything. Thankfully, it didn't get down to the mattress...could be because I have a mattress pad and feather bed on the bed.

Anyway, I mention to my sister in the morning to please put my stuff in the dryer so that when I get home I can change the sheets and put the good blanket back on the bed. She does it and is lovely and helpful. Well, I get to work, go through the morning and then there's a phone call from the apartment complex. My sister put the feather bed in the washer...needless to say, flood...big flood...all through the apartment. We have insurance so no big deal, we'll deal with it.

Last night was long...we lived in the humid wind tunnel also known as our living room and we cope. Ice Cream for dinner and my poor sister felt so bad.

So I get home from work today and am greeted by the cat...I go to my bedroom and find the door closed (UGH!) and so is the bathroom door (DOUBLE UGH!) not only is the cat food in the bathroom but also his LITTER BOX! Guess what he used as the litter box??? You guessed it...my bed...AGAIN! Damn workers. Now, the problem this time is no mattress pad and no feather bed to block the urine...so it went through the mattress.

Now I am sitting in the laundromat (because we have no washer or dryer right now) washing the linens...I have NO clue what to do about my bed now and I'm just frustrated.

Now that you've listened to that...if anyone has any good techniques for getting out cat pee smell I'd love to hear them!!!!

You know how sometimes people on your friends-list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy the topics below, erase my answers and put yours in their place, and then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration. One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out.

an update on me in meme form )

I'm less than $600 away from goal!!!!! Can you go without your Starbucks today? That $5 you spend could be the difference between someone getting a mamogram that diagnoses Breast Cancer and dying because they didn't get treatment early enough.

CLICK HERE to donate. You all know how much Breast Cancer has affected my life...think about how it has affected yours.

Much love always!

Avon Walk Number FIVE!!!!

In 25 days I'm doing the Avon Walk in New York. I have about a thousand dollars to go to raise all of my funds...

They say that everyone is 6 degrees of separation away from Kevin Bacon. Whether or not this is actually true I've yet to figure out...but did you know how many degrees of separation you are away from breast cancer? I bet it's closer than you think.

I spent years saying "it will never happen to me or my family...that happens to other people..." How wrong I was. I remember the day clearly when I was sitting with friends in Boston at the Hard Rock Cafe when my phone rang and it was my mother on the other end. I knew why she was calling and I braced myself for the news...she had breast cancer. 18 months later when we found out that the cancer had returned we braced ourselves for another battle. My mom Kate is now almost 3 years cancer free. My friend Shanna's mother has over 7 years cancer free!!!

Sadly, not everyone is that lucky. My best friends mother lost her heroic battle this year exactly one month before my friend was due to be married.

In just 25 days I will walk beside my mother for over 39 miles in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in NYC. This will be my 3rd event as a walker and my 5th event total and I'll keep doing this until none of you ever have to hear that phrase from a family member that they have breast cancer.

I can't do this without your support though. Every walker is required to raise $1800 towards thier walk. The proceeds of the walk go directly into helping those who might not have medical treatment to get mamograms for early detection or to help doctors and scientists to find a cure. Every single penny that I raise helps and I'm determined to make my goal.

Please click on the link below or go to www.avonwalk.org and type in my name to donate to the walk.

If you can't donate please keep all of us in mind Columbus day weekend as we walk 39 miles closer to a cure.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of you my friends.

Post Surgery Day Number...11

  • Aug. 9th, 2009 at 10:01 PM

Well, I can finally say I feel better. I'm still not quite at 100% but we're in the 70-80 range. Have to take some meds here and there but I'm off the heavy duty stuff and I'm onto semi soft solids :) YAY! I even had some pasta salad I made today :) HUZZAH!!!! After last Wednesdays day of horrible...I went to the doctor on Thursday and got a complete med change filled alongside with some Zofran for the nausea and it worked wonders. By Friday night I had small little tiny bites of food at dinner at dad's house and some mashed potatoes and zucchini.

I even had COFFEE!!!!!! Oh Coffee how I've missed you :) I'm so happy to have you back in my life. Hopefully this week I'll get to enjoy the yummy fresh from the tree peaches we got whilst in CT.

The best part of this...I've lost 13 pounds :) YIPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE :) I'm under 190!!!! YAY!!!! A nice kick start to the weightloss train that I wanted to get on anyway. Now I just have more incentive. That and the fact that my "skinny capris" fit today I'm one psyched girl :)

Not much else to say here...oh wait...did I post a picture of my new baby over here????

Check her out :)

My pretty new car :)

Day 5...

  • Aug. 2nd, 2009 at 1:20 PM

And you guys say I never post! At least I'm getting good advice out of this...

cut for possible tmi )

and now...nap time

Day 4....

  • Aug. 1st, 2009 at 6:02 PM

Someone needs to come up with a marketing campaign to only have red popsicles in a box. Seriously because they are my favorite, I don't like orange that much and could do without purple but I need to purchase the whole box :( Tis sad.

Needless to say, still on liquids, attempted solids and that was just a bad call. I certainly have gotten a lot of sleep though :) and I made it through seasons 1 and 2 of Grey's :) Ah the things we do post op huh? Still feebily hoping to make it to work on Monday but I'm thinking that's not going to happen :(

Day 2 Post Surgery

  • Jul. 30th, 2009 at 11:05 PM

Feeling about the same today. I realized once again how much I love Grey's Anatomy and how awesome the writing was during Season 2. Mom and I have been watching the DVD's while we're sitting around the house and in between naps. That and Phase 10 :) Yay for Phase 10 but maybe I should start playing it when I'm NOT post surgery huh?

Other than that...juice, meds, popsicles, nap, rinse and repeat :) I did attempt a pierogi tonight but I only got about half of one down before I was in pain so we'll wait on some solids for a few more days. I will pick up some of those pedialyte pops tomorrow that were suggested. Maybe they'll be good. I'm a big fan of the whole fruit pops right now :)

Night all!!!!!

Day 1 Post Surgery

Flowers from funnybitch
Just thought I'd send a quick update seeing as I'm awake at 4am. I finally got my tonsills out yesterday. Surgery was not horrible but after affects mean one heck of a sore throat. Yay for liquid meds :) As most of you know, tonsillitis is something I have WAY too often and I finally convinced my doctor that I should get them out (i think it was the 4 infections since January thing this year). I thought I was being good waiting until the summer but of course now I'm missing time off of the new job which is always fun.

Anyway, that's the update, not much left to talk about around these parts just lots of sleeping and sitting on the couch resting the next week. FUN!!!!

Love to all!!!!!!!

Check out what I did today....

Anyone want to drive out to CSUN for me???? I'm so damn annoyed. I have NO transcripts left and now I'm screwed because I can't apply for my teaching credential in NH without one and in order to get one I have to go to the CSUN office in PERSON or send someone in my place. Can you say annoying???

GRRRR!!!!!

Prayers and thoughts needed

  • Feb. 28th, 2009 at 10:34 AM

I know that many of you in the NSYNC fandom know or know of my friend Mindy. For the past year or so her mother has fought a heroic battle with breast cancer. Unfortunatly, things at this point are not good. Her mom has been in the hospital the past few days and her health is failing fast. To add to this, Mindy is getting married at the end of March so you can only imagine how difficult this is for her not only to lose her mom but also right at this time of her life.

Please, whatever you do, thoughts, prayers, blessings, etc., please send them out to Indiana the next few days as this family truly needs your good wishes.

If you know Min personally and would like me to pass on thoughts to her, I'm leaving in the next few days to fly out to Indiana to be with her and her family and I'd be more than happy to pass those blessings along.

Thanks everyone!
